Noé Socha, on His First Solo Album, View From Inside, Bends Blues, Americana and Jazz Into a Unique Amalgam All His Own

With original compositions alongside sweeping transformations of classics by Chick Corea, John Mayer, Henry Mancini and The Beatles, View from Inside showcases a masterful talent with an improvisational hybrid style.

Throughout, Noé glides fearlessly and organically between genres, playing in odd meters and improvising at length. As Mayer posted on his TikTok while listening to Noé's version of "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," [Noe] has “Insane dynamics," and "plays by his own set of rules.”

For Noé, who has been legally blind since shortly after birth (he retains limited vision in his right eye), View from Inside also speaks to the way he experiences his surroundings.

He can see bright colors, and thinks and imagines in color. When describing a summer day, he talks about greenery, the warmth of the sun, a breeze, sounds and smells. “It’s all part of the picture,” he says. “I guess that many people believe that a blind person wouldn’t have a concept of visuals,” Noé says. “But you certainly can imagine. You make up the rest with the other senses, and you can have your own vision of what that is.”

"Songs come to me in different ways and at different speeds. At times, an idea will hit and I can quickly play it and memorize it. Sometimes I can create it all in my head. Bossa Leonessa lingered in my mind for years and I was only able to finish it on the recording session date."

"For more than four years, I posted a series of songs on my YouTube channel called blindselfie, where I would film myself playing. One day I decided to write a new song every day for two weeks, and this is where some of the original tunes on this album began their lives. The 14 tracks on this album were recorded in two days in early 2025 with no overdubs.

I am often told that my solo music inspires imagination, so here I wanted to leverage this by working with a creative team that embraced the ideas of using vibrant and vivid imagery (I am able to see bright colors), jazz aesthetics, expressive compositions, and artwork inspired by the songs."
